WSolve provides turnkey tools and financing solutions to office furniture dealers wanting to transition their business to a circular economy. These companies - also referred to as 'Wsolve Satellites' - operate successfully in the traditional market for office furniture and are taking the step towards circular business operations with WSolve. In this way, satellites provide their clients (organizations and institutions) with a healthy office or workplace making use of a full operational lease model.
Our Story
Businesses around the world are facing major but similar challenges. The pandemic, interrupted supply chains, inflation and recession; are all signs of a faltering system.
When implementing the alternative, the circular economy (CE), we see similar, recurring challenges, which complicate the transition to the CE. This applies in particular to material-driven industries with low margins, such as the market for (office) furniture. This makes it difficult for existing SMEs to adopt change. And now the large-scale implementation of the circular economy is proceeding too slowly to achieve climate objectives, for example.
A feasible business case for circularity places the boundary of material and product flows at approximately 300 km around the distribution location of those materials. At greater distances, the costs of logistics and their negative impact on the environment no longer outweigh the benefits. This contributes to local production and consumption, which is characteristic of the CE, but which sometimes makes it difficult to match the supply and demand of materials and products.

Zooming into the wasteful world of office furniture, we find that the global market for office furniture totaled US$58.4 billion by 2021. Looking ahead, the market is expected to reach $74.7 billion by 2027, with a CAGR of 4.1% over 2022-2027. A staggering 80% of this furniture is landfilled or incinerated - and only 0.3% is being recycled, while laws, regulations and consumers are increasingly demanding a healthy workspace.
